Goodbye!

3 weeks I ago I went to Schiphol. This time I wasn't going to travel to Norway.. In fact I wasn't going to travel anywhere. I was here to say goodbye to Wendy. And she wasn't just going away for a vacation, she was going to the other side of the world for 7 months! To do her graduation project, about accessable tourism in Australia! I think it's awesome that she succeeded in finding a company over there and making one of her dreams come true! I will certainly miss her but luckily it's quite easy to communicate nowadays via the Internet! And also 'old fashioned' communication , sending cards and letters, is still nice!

4 days earlier there was a goodbye party! First we went to eat something at 'de Boerenstamppot'. A cosy restaurant with typical Dutch dishes. I chose for a shrimp cocktail, fries with bacon and salat and chocolate pudding and it all tasted very good! After the dinner , Kirsten, Lisan, Edwin, Wendy and me went to Wendys place. We had a good conversation and we gave our goodbye present. A photoalbum with a lot of photos of awesome things we had experienced together the last years. When I went abroad for 6 months I got a present like that as well and that made me very happy. So we decided that Wendy should get something like that as well and she was very happy with it also which was nice to see! After an hour we went outside again and walked to a pub to join the rest of the group. It was nice weather so everyone was sitting outside and chatting. It became a very nice evening, however a little strange also because it was (almost) the last time in 7 months that we saw Wendy in real life. At 2 o'clock we were still sitting outside with a little group but then the owner of the pub came outside to say that the pub was closing and that we had to go.. And after some more fun at the street we all went home..

So now back to Monday again. I went to Schiphol by train and almost at Schiphol I suddenly saw a familiar face! It was Hans, who was going to say goodbye to Wendy also. Together we walked to 'departures 3' where Wendy ha d to check in. We saw a long queu with a lot of Asian people but no sign of Wendy yet. But after a few minutes we saw her coming, together with Ronald and with her large backpack. And again a few minutes later Wendys parents, sister and grandmother arrived also! Luckly the queu had become a lot shorter by then and checking in went smoothly. We still had some time before Wendy really had to go so we went upstairs to a cafe to drink something. And after making some more pictures of Wendy with everyone she had to go through customs so time for a really last hug and after some more waving she was gone..And I went back home again. .

When writing this, it's already 3 weeks ago since she left, and she's having an awesome time so I am very glad for her! If you want to know more about her adventures down under, check http://globeskater.blogspot.com !
